Description
Wealthy New York sewer contractor Carl A. “Andy” Capasso left his wife Nancy to take up with former Miss America Bess Myerson, twenty-one years his senior. The scorned wife vowed to get revenge in the divorce. Ms. Myerson allegedly persuaded her friend Hortense Gabel, the judge on the divorce case, to reduce her lover’s alimony payments by offering a job to the judge’s emotionally troubled and unemployable daughter. In October 1987, Ms. Myerson, Capasso and Gabel were indicted for conspiracy, bribery and mail fraud, but they were all acquitted in 1988.
